Masterclass
Portrait Drawing: Light and Form with Noah Buchanan
November 9-11, 2023
Join us for a masterclass like no other with professional artist and Big Stories curator
Noah Buchanan. In this 3-day intensive workshop, Noah Buchanan will lead participants
through the process of drawing the human head in graphite from observation of a live
model. Workshop participants will investigate the depiction of the human head in several
short-term drawings, as well as one long-pose drawing. Alongside these drawings, Buchanan
will present lecture topics about the structure of the head, proportions of the face,
and strategies on drawing individual features, such as the eyes, nose, and mouth.
Buchanan will discuss Light and Shadow Theory, featuring an in-workshop demonstration
drawing. Workshop participants will improve their drawing skills in the classical
tradition of Portraiture/Head Drawing through the observation of lecture, demonstration,
individual critiques, as well as the practice of working from a live model.
